Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
Description of first aid measures
Immediately remove contaminated clothing. If the patient is likely to become unconscious, place and transport in stable sideways position (recovery position). First aid personnel should pay attention to their own safety.
If inhaled:
Keep patient calm, remove to fresh air, seek medical attention. Immediately administer a corticosteroid from a controlled/metered dose inhaler.
On skin contact:
Immediately wash thoroughly with plenty of water, apply sterile dressings, consult a skin specialist.
On contact with eyes:
Immediately wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eyelids held open, consult an eye specialist.
On ingestion:
Immediately rinse mouth and then drink 200-300 ml of water, seek medical attention.
Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed
Symptoms: Information, i.e. additional information on symptoms and effects may be included in the GHS labeling phrases available in Section 2 of the MSDS and in the Toxicological assessments available in Section 11 of the MSDS.
Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
Treatment: Treat according to symptoms (decontamination, vital functions), no known specific antidote. Pulmonary odema prophylaxis. Medical monitoring for at least 24 hours.
Fire-fighting measures
Extinguishing media
Suitable extinguishing media:
dry powder, carbon dioxide, foam, water spray
Unsuitable extinguishing media for safety reasons:
water jet
Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
chlorine compounds
The substances/groups of substances mentioned can be released in case of fire.
Advice for fire-fighters
Special protective equipment:
Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical-protective clothing.
Further information:
Dispose of fire debris and contaminated extinguishing water in accordance with official regulations.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
Breathing protection required. Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing.
Environmental precautions
Do not empty into drains.
Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
For small amounts: Pick up with suitable absorbent material (e.g. sand, sawdust, general-purpose binder, kieselguhr). Dispose of absorbed material in accordance with regulations.
For large amounts: Dike spillage. Pump off product.
For residues: Pick up with suitable absorbent material (e.g. sand, sawdust, general-purpose binder, kieselguhr). Dispose of absorbed material in accordance with regulations.
Handling and storage
Precautions for safe handling
Ensure thorough ventilation of stores and work areas. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Protect against moisture.
Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
Segregate from amines. Segregate from alkalies and alkalizing substances.
Further information on storage conditions: Keep container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place.
Storage stability:
Storage duration: 6 Months
From the data on storage duration in this safety data sheet no agreed statement regarding the warrantee of application properties can be deduced.
Specific end use(s)
For the relevant identified use(s) listed in Section 1 of the MSDS the advice mentioned in this section is to be observed.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Control parameters
Components with occupational exposure limits
No substance specific occupational exposure limits known.
Exposure controls
Personal protective equipment
Respiratory protection:
Self-contained breathing apparatus.
Hand protection:
Chemical resistant protective gloves (EN 374)
Performance level 6, corresponding to a breakthrough time of >480 min according to EN ISO 374-1
fluoroelastomer (FKM) - 0.7 mm coating thickness
Performance level 4, corresponding to a breakthrough time of >120 min according to EN ISO 374-1
nitrile rubber (NBR) - 0.4 mm coating thickness
polyvinylchloride (PVC) - 0.7 mm coating thickness
Performance level 2, corresponding to a breakthrough time of >30 min according to EN ISO 374-1
chloroprene rubber (CR) - 0.5 mm coating thickness
butyl rubber (butyl) - 0.7 mm coating thickness
Supplementary note: The specifications are based on tests, literature data and information of glove manufacturers or are derived from similar substances by analogy. Due to many conditions (e.g. temperature) it must be considered, that the practical usage of a chemical-protective glove in practice may be much shorter than the permeation time determined through testing.
Manufacturer's directions for use should be observed because of great diversity of types.
Eye protection:
Tightly fitting safety goggles (cage goggles) (e.g. EN 166) and face shield.
Body protection:
Body protection must be chosen depending on activity and possible exposure, e.g. apron, protecting boots, chemical-protection suit (according to EN 14605 in case of splashes or EN ISO 13982 in case of dust).
General safety and hygiene measures
Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing. Do not breathe vapour/spray.
Stability and reactivity
Reactivity
Corrosion to metals:
Corrosive effect on metals.
Reactions with water/air: Reaction with: water
Flammable gases: no
Toxic gases: yes
Which toxic gases: hydrogen chloride (HCl)
Corrosive gases: yes
Which corrosive gases: hydrogen chloride (HCl)
Smoke or fog: yes
Type of smoke or fog: Hydrochloric acid
Which Peroxides:
Formation of flammable gases: Remarks: Forms no flammable gases in the presence of water.
Chemical stability
Peroxides: Substance contains no organic peroxides.
Possibility of hazardous reactions
Evolution of corrosive gases/vapours. Reacts with water and basic components to generate heat. On contact with water, gaseous decomposition products are formed, which cause build-up of pressure in tightly closed containers. Reacts with alkalies and metals. Reacts with alcohols, amines, aqueous acids and alkalies. Reacts with water and moisture, with formation of hydrogen chloride. Partly very violent reactions with bases and numerous organic classes of substances such as alcohols and amines. Addition of water leads to increase in temperature. In damp air hydrochloric acid formation is possible. Violent reactions with water and/or alcohols, with formation of hydrochloric acid.
Conditions to avoid
Avoid electro-static charge. Avoid humidity. Avoid heat. Avoid prolonged storage. Disregard of the conditions mentioned may result in undesirable decomposition reactions.
Incompatible materials
Substances to avoid:
alkaline reactive substances, alcohols, bases, amines, water
Hazardous decomposition products
Hazardous decomposition products:
Hydrogen chloride
Disposal considerations
Waste treatment methods
Incinerate in suitable incineration plant, observing local authority regulations.
Contaminated packaging:
Packs that cannot be cleaned should be disposed of in the same manner as the contents.
