Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets
Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
respiration, preferably mouth to mouth.
If breathing difficult, give oxygen.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15
minutes, holding eyes open.
Emergency measure - Skin: Immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15
minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes.
Discard contaminated clothing and shoes.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Give two glasses of water and permit vomiting if nauseated.
Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
Fire-fighting measures
DO NOT use halogenated hydrocarbon fire extinguishers.
Temporary control may be obtained with foam, dry chemical,
or carbon dioxide, but the substance may reignite when
extinguisher is discontinued. Shut off source as soon as
possible without risk.
Control and confine fire. Use water spray to control heat
and protect equipment. The substance floats on water and use
of water as an extinguishant may spread the fire.
Product arising from burning: COx and BOx
Product determined by test: N
Protective equipment: Wear full protective clothing, including protective gloves
and boots. For respiratory protection, wear a NIOSH/MHSA
approved self-contained breathing apparatus with full
facepiece operated in a positive-pressure mode.
Accidental release measures
and boots. For respiratory protection, wear an approved
self-contained breathing apparatus with full-facepiece
operated in a positive-pressure mode.
Properly dispose of all residues immediately.
Handle in compliance with all local, state and federal laws
and regulations.
The substance will catch fire if exposed to air.
If possible let the fire burn itself out, control the fire
as indicated under fire fighting measures, extinguishing
media (see section 2.3.40).
Handling and storage
been thoroughly purged with dry nitrogen or argon. Keep away
from heat, sparks and flame.
Do not expose to air. Handle in a closed system under dry
nitrogen or dry argon gas.
Use only with adequate ventilation. Do not get into eyes or
on skin. Wash thoroughly after handling.
Do not breath vapour.
Wear chemical protective goggles with faceshield,
fire-retardant protective clothing and leather gloves if
exposure to eyes or skin is possible.
If inhalation of vapours is possible, wear an approved
self-contained breathing apparatus with full facepiece
operated in a positive-pressure mode.
Storage: Keep container tightly closed and away from oxidizing
agents, organic peroxides and halogenated hydrocarbons.
Do not expose to air.
Store in a closed system under dry nitrogen or dry argon
gas. Do not store residues. Properly dispose of all residues
immediately.
Packaging of the substance and or preparation: 90 liters carbon steel cylinders, DOT specification 4BWT40
(355 mm diameter and 1255 mm height).
However, applicable to preparation in 50% tetrahydrofuran
only. The substance itself will not be imported.
The 50% preparation is not pyrophoric.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Stability and reactivity
violently or detonate when mixed with strong oxidizing
agents or halogenated hydrocarbons. The substance burns with
a green and yellow flame and produces a dense black smoke.
Work upwind if possible.
The 50% solution in tetrahydrofuran in which the substance
is imported only, does not catch fire on exposure to air.
Chemical reaction with water: The substance reacts in water momentaneously by forming
methanol and diethyl boronic acid. Further decomposition
(separation of ethyl groups) occurs slowly.
Dust explosion: Not applicable for liquids.
Dust explosion determined by test: N
Disposal considerations
Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Not possible.
During handling, small volumes (milliliters) may be
neutralized by adding it to a large amount of water.
Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not possible.
Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Incinerate in an appropriate incinerator with flue gas
scrubbing (code 661).
Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not recommended.
Industry - Possibility of destruction - other: Not applicable.
Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Not applicable, the substance is not available for the
public at large.
Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable.
Public at large - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not applicable.
Public at large - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Not applicable.
Public at large - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not applicable.
Public at large - Possibility of destruction - others: None.
