Description of key information
Acute toxicity of 5-methylheptan-3-one (CASNr: 541-85-5) to goldfish (Carassius auratus) was tested in a 24 h study period. LC50 after 24 h was 80 mg/l. The result was confirmed by an estimation of a 96 h LC50 using Ecosar calculation (LC50 (96h) 77.7 mg/l). In addition, a LC50 after 96h of 428mg/l was measured for the read across substance 2-hexanone (Geiger D.L. et al., 1986: Acute toxicities of organic chemicals to Fatheas Minnows (Pimephales promelas) Volume III, ISBN 0-9614968-2-7).

Acute toxicity of 5-methylheptan-3-one (CASNr: 541-85-5) to goldfish (Carassius auratus) was tested in a 24 h study period. LC50 after 24 h was 80 mg/l. The result was confirmed by an estimation of a 96 h LC50 using Ecosar calculation (LC50 (96h) 77.7 mg/l). The result was also 5 times lower than the LC50 (96h) measured for the read across substance 2-hexanone (1). Based on these data in combination with the fact that the substance is readily biodegradable, a classification is not required.
