Additional information

The substance in granulate form is non-flammable as determined in the test according to EU A.10 and in an older supporting test according to UN N.1 and EU A.10. The substance in powder form is flammable and the burning ratio is 2.9 mm/s (EU A.10, with investigation of the wetted zone, which stops the fire) or for two different batches 2.94 or 5.56 mm/s without the wetted zone investigation.

According to the manufacturer's experience, and available experimental evidence on a variety of alkyl sulfates, solid forms of bulk density < 400 g/L are flammable on ignition, whereas solid forms of higher bulk density > 400 g/L are non-flammable. In terms of aggregate state, this corresponds approximately to powders and granulates, respectively.

Based on experience in handling and use and the chemical structure, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not to be expected.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging (CLP) of substances and mixtures, the substance in powder form (bulk density < 400 g/L) is considered to be a flammable solid, Category 2, because the burning rate exceeds the value of 2.2 mm/s, and the wetted zone stops the fire.

Propagation of burning in tests according to EU method A.10. and UN method N.1 was either not observed or weak in the case of the granulate form (bulk density > 400 g/L).

Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.
