Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

A 72-hour EC50 value of >3.6 mg/L and NOEC of 1.8 mg/L have been determined for the effects of the read-across substance 3-(triethoxysilyl)propiononitrile on growth rate of Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata. The test results are expressed relative to the concentration of the test substance however it is likely that the test organisms were exposed to a mixture of the test substance and its hydrolysis products. The EC50 and NOEC values expressed relative to nominal test concentration are >120 and 60 mg/L respectively.

Additional information

No data are available for the submission substance,

3-(trichlorosilyl)propiononitrile.

However data are available for the read-across substance

3-(triethoxysilyl)propiononitrile.

The hydrolysis half-lives of 3-(trichlorosilyl)propiononitrile and 3-(triethoxysilyl)propiononitrile indicate that, under conditions relevant to ecotoxicity assessment, both will hydrolyse to 3-(trihydroxysilyl)propionitrile. The other hydrolysis products are hydrogen chloride and ethanol, respectively; the properties of these substances are well characterised. Ethanol is non-toxic to the environment and it is considered unlikely that it’s presence significantly affected the results of the test performed with 3-(triethoxysilyl)propiononitrile. Effects of hydrogen chloride on aquatic organisms are limited to those that result from changes to pH in unbuffered media.
