Black liquor showed some acute toxicity on aquatic organisms. The most sensitive organism to Black liquor was algae in comparison to Daphnia and fish. There was no available information on long-term toxicity to aquatic organisms. The studies lacking the highest reliability ranking supported the findings cited below. The tested sample contained 47.3 % water/52.7% dry solids.
Invertebrates:
EC50 (48 h) values for Daphnia magna were 685 mg/l (dwt) (1300 mg/l (wwt)) and > 527 mg/l (dwt) (>1000 mg/l (wwt.)9 (n=2).
NOEC (48 h) values for Daphnia magna were 105 mg/l (dwt) (200 mg/l (wwt.)) and 527 mg7l (dwt) (1000 mg/l (wwt.)) (n=2).
Algae:
EC50 (72 h) values for Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata were 38 mg/l (dwt) (72.4 mg/l (wwt.)) and 78 mg/l (dwt) (149 mg/l (wwt.)) (growth rate) (n=2).
NOEC (72 h) values for Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata were 6.3 mg/l (dwt) (12 mg/l (wwt.)) and 2.6 mg/l (dwt) (5 mg/l (wwt.)) (growth rate (n=2).
Fish:
LL50 (96 h) value for Pimephales promelas was > 527 mg/l (dwt.) (>1000 mg/l (wwt.)) (n=1).
NOELr (96 h) value for Pimephales promelas was 527 mg/l (dwt.) (1000 mg/l (wwt.)) (n=1).
