GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
A negative result for pyrophoricity was demonstrated in a reliable study conducted according to an appropriate test protocol. The study was conducted in accordance to GLP.

Description of key information

The substance, dicyclopentyl(dimethoxy)silane:

•       Is not flammable (based on a measured flash point of 95-117°C at 1013 hPa and boiling point of 260°C)

•       In contact with water does not emit a flammable gas (EU Method A.12).

•       Is not pyrophoric (EU Method A.13).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Dicyclopentyl(dimethoxy)silane is a liquid, so its flammability is assessed on the basis of flash point.

Dicyclopentyl(dimethoxy)silane does not produce a flammable gas in contact with water in available studies according to EU Method A.12 and in compliance with GLP.

Dicyclopentyl(dimethoxy)silane was demonstrated not to be a pyrophoric liquid in available studies according to EU Test Method A.13 because no ignition was observed in the first part and did not ignite or char the filter paper in the second part of the available studies.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Dicyclopentyl(dimethoxy)silane is not classified for flammability in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. This is based on a measured 95-117°C at 1013 hPa and a measured boiling point 260°C at 1013 hPa.

Dicyclopentyl(dimethoxy)silane does not produce a flammable gas in contact with water in available studies conducted according to EU Method A.12.

Dicyclopentyl(dimethoxy)silane was demonstrated not to be pyrophoric because no ignition was observed during available studies conducted according to EU Method A.13.
