Description of key information
The degradability of Piperonyl butoxide (PBO) was estimated in a mineral test medium which was inoculated with micro-organisms from a municipal wastewater treatment plant. Degradation was determined by measuring dissolved oxygen over a period of 28 days. The criterion for ready biodegradability of > 60% removal of the ThOD within the 28-d period was not reached. Therefore Piperonyl butoxide (PBO) cannot be considered as readily biodegradable under the conditions of the closed bottle test (degradation of Piperonyl butoxide after 28 days: -1.2%).
