Description of key information

By the principal sieving between 100 μm and 1 mm, the majority of the particles has got a size between 125 and 180 μm (48.6%).
The particle size distribution of the test item was found to range approximately 0.656 μm to 152.541 μm with the laser diffraction method. With this method, the mean diameter in volume was 36.628 μm. The mean diameter in surface was 18.486 μm.
The particle size D(0.1) was 10.858 μm. The particle size D(0.5) was 34.304 μm. The particle size D(0.9) was 71.764 μm.

Additional information

The determination of the particle size distribution of the test item was performed in two parts. First the determination was made by sieving according to Method 110 of OECD Guidelines for the Testing of Chemicals and GLP. Then the determination of the particle size between 2000 and 0.050 µm was made by laser diffraction according to CIPAC MT 187 method. No deviation from the guidelines was observed during the two part of the test.

A significant amount of test item has a particle size lower than 20 µm. Furthermore, the test item formed some agglomerates below 100 µm. So the laser diffraction method was chosen to determined the particle size distribution of the test item between 2000 µm to 0.050 µm.
