Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The substance1-Octadecanol, phosphate, potassium salt has to be considered as surface active substance.

in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
198.68

Additional information

Measured data are available for 1-Octadecanol, phosphate, potassium salt, the substance to be registered and the read-across substance Phosphoric acid, C16-18-alkyl esters, potassium salts. For both substances the measured values lay around the threshold value for identification as surfactant of 60 mN/m.

1-Octadecanol, phosphate, potassium salt

Surface tension: 67.6 – 69.21 mN/m (20 °C; 52.04 mg/L)

Phosphoric acid, C16-18-alkyl esters, potassium salts

Surface tension: 47.59 – 59.47 mN/m (20 °C; 198.68 mg/L)

Furthermore, in his own laboratory the registrant has obtained values of 40.4 – 58.3 mN/m and 52.4 – 53.1 mN/m for a 0.5 % and 1 % 1-Octadecanol, phosphate, potassium salt (Silastol H 200 TS), respectively.

Phosphoric esters of long-chain alcohols are described as surfactants in literature; furthermore the substance class is used as emulsifier in cosmetics.

In a weight of evidence approach is was considered to be suitable to use the measured mean value from the read-across substance for assessment, as these data describe more appropriate to the common uses and known physico-chemical profile of the substance.
