Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

In the Klimisch 1 GLP study from Kimmel (2013) the toxicity of Sulfosuccinic (FA C16-18/18:1)E, Na/NH4 to Desmodesmus subspicatus was determined in a static 72-Hour Algal Growth Inhibition Test. The test was performed according to OECD 201 and EU Method C.3. The nominal concentrations of the test item of 0.32, 1.0, 3.2, 10, 32 and 100 mg/L were tested in parallel with a control. The measured concentrations of Sulfosuccinic (FA C16-18/18:1)E, Na/NH4 in the test media of the test concentrations of 3.2 to 100 mg test item/L were between 83% to 107% of the nominal values at the start of the test and between 61% to 96% at the end of the test. Thus, the correct dosing of the test item Sulfosuccinic (FA C16-18/18:1)E, Na/NH4 was confirmed. During the test period of 72 hours, a decrease of test item concentration in the test media occurred. The biological results were related to the mean measured test item concentrations (calculated as the geometric means of the concentrations measured at the start and end of the test):, i.e. 2.3, 8.4, 26 and 101 mg/L for nominal test concentrations of the biologically relevant nominal concentrations of 3.2, 10, 32 and 100 mg/L.The algal biomass in the samples was determined by measurement of the algal cell density using an electronic particle counter (Coulter Counter, Model Z2). The measurements were performed at least in duplicate.

The cell density was determined at 0, 24, 48 and 72 hours. The growth of the control cultures fulfilled the validity criteria from OECD 201 (2006). The 72 -hour ErC10 and ErC50 are 5.2 and 30 mg/L based on the mean measured concentrations.
