Executive summary:

The control measures recommended (see section 10.7.1) during use of N,N’-dithio-o- phenylenedibenzamide should result in insignificant risks to both human health and the environment. As the only use of this substance involves its chemical transformation by customers in the manufacture of the end product (rubber products), the possibility of exposure to the environment through the use of the end products is insignificant. The life-cycle of N,N’-dithio-o- phenylenedibenzamide ends with the manufacturer. Furthermore, the acute toxicity of N,N’-dithio-o- phenylenedibenzamide to Daphnia Magna has been found give a value of EC50 = 0.095 mg/l; the classification of the substance is shown to be very toxic to aquatic organisms. Given these factors, it is therefore demonstrated that further testing would serve no purpose and can be waived.
