Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Eyes: Immediately flush with water for at least 15 minutes.
Emergency measure - Skin: Remove the liquid from the skin with dry cloth and wash with
detergent.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Carbon dioxide extinghuiser or foam extinghuisher.

Product arising from burning: Carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, water and silica ash are
produced by complere combustion of the substance.

Various intermediate organic oxides such as aldehydes and
carbon monoxide can naturally be evolved too.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Personal protective equipment should be put on to avoid
direct contact to skin and eye in use, disposal or
incineration.

Accidental release measures

Handling and storage

Handling: In the process of the substance to silicone rubber
materials, it is necessary to put rubber gloves and goggles
on to avoid a direct contact to skin or eye.

Storage: For the substance itself, it should be stored in a closed
container at a place without ignition source.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: The silicone rubber materials will be packaged and
transported in cans or drums of resin-coated steel.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: The substance reacts gradually but steadily with water or
moisture to release methanol.

The reaction is not so risky (not explosive nor especially
exothermic), while methanol is naturally flammable and
hazardous to the the health.

Chemical reaction with water: Methoxy groups directly combined to Si-atoms are reactive to
water:

(R-)3SiOCH3 ------H20---> (R-)3SiOH + CH3OH

Dust explosion determined by test: N

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: not possible

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: not given

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: not given
