- Protective equipment and emergency procedures:
Safety spectacles. Goggles, suitable protective clothing, appropriate gloves, self-contained breathing apparatus, For further information refer to paragraph "Exposure-controls/personal protection".
- Environmental precautions:
- Contain the spilled material by bunding.
- Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:
- Recovery : Collect up the product and place it in a spare container, suitably labelled, made of plastic.
- Neutralization : Neutralize with calcium hydroxide.
- Cleaning/Decontamination : Wash with sodium carbonate solution (5% Na2 CO3).
- Disposal : For disposal of residues refer to paragraph "Disposal considerations".

Exposure controls / personal protection
Engineering measures :
- No specific measures are required provided the product is handled in accordance with the general rules of occupational hygiene and safety.
Control parameters (Exposure limit values (Human Health)) :
- Occupational exposure limit values (France) : Nitric acid : VLE: 2.6 mg/m3
- ACGIH Threshold Limit Values (U.S.A./A.C.G.I.H.) : Nitric acid : TLV ( TWA ) : 2 ppm ; TLV ( STEL ) : 4 ppm
- Occupational exposure limit values (EU) : Nitric acid : Exposure limit (Short term) : 2.6 mg/m3 (1 ppm)
Personal protective equipment :
- Respiratory protection : Keep the atmospheric concentration below the occupational exposure limits. If the occupational exposure limit is exceeded or If vapour is released: Self-contained breathing apparatus.
- Hand protection : Appropriate gloves. In case of mixture with other substances, request advice from your glove supplier. Protective gloves must be chosen according to the function of the work station: other chemicals which may be handled, physical protection necessary (resistance to cutting, puncture, heat), dexterity required. Use suitable chemical-resistant protective gloves (compliant with Standard EN 374-1)
- Eye protection : Safety spectacles.
- Skin and body protection : Protective clothing.
Collective emergency equipment :
- Safety shower, Eye fountain, Water supply available close by.
Stability and reactivity
Stability : Stable at ambient temperature and under normal conditions of use
Hazardous reactions : Hazardous decomposition products : On combustion or on thermal decomposition (following the evaporation of water) releases:(Nitrogen oxides).
Disposal considerations
RESIDUES FROM PRODUCT
- Destruction/Disposal : Destroy at an authorised site.
CONTAMINATED PACKAGING
- Decontamination/cleaning : Clean with water. Treat the cleaning water following the above method for waste product.
- Destruction/Disposal : Reuse or recycle following washing.
NOTE
- The user's attention is drawn to the possible existence of local regulations regarding disposal.
