Description of key information
Appearance/ physical state/ colour
The appearance/ physical state/ colour endpoint was waived.
Melting/Freezing Point.
The melting point was determined using differential scanning calorimetry according to the DSC method in accordance with an in-house method developed for internal QC procedures under an ISO 9001:2015 accredited Quality Management System. The test item was determined to have a melting point of 161.1°C
Boiling Point.
The boiling point was determined using thermogravimetrymethod according to the DTA-TG. The test item was determined to have a boiling point between 273 – 275 °C
Relative Density.
The relative density determined using a pycnometer, designed to be compatible with Method A.3 Relative Density of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008. the test item was determined to have a relative density of 1.1890 g/ml
Water Solubility.
The water solubility was determined according to OECD 105 method. Water solubility of the test item is given as the mean of the concentrations measured on the second (334.2 mg/L) and third days (380.5 mg/L).
The water solubility of the test item has been determined to be 357.3 mg/L at 20.0 ± 0.5 °C.
Surface tension
The surface tension endpoint was waived
Partition Coefficient (n-octanol/water).
The Partition Coefficient (n-octanol/water) was determined using the HPLC method, designed to be compatible with Method 117 of the OECD Guideline, in accordance with GLP. The partition coefficient of the test item, based on the regression equation, the log Pow of Isophthalonitrile was calculated as 1.5.
Particle Size Distribution.
The particle size distribution was determined by a sieve methoddesigned to be compatible with OECD 110. Particle size distribution showed that more than 99% of test item particles (by weight) are greater than 1 mm which equates to > 1000 microns.
Vapor pressure
The vapor pressure was determined using the isoteniscope method. The vapor pressure of the test item has been determined to be less than 133 Pa at 50 ºC.
The results of the thermo-gravimetric measurement used for the determination of melting point indicate that there is no measureable evaporation/sublimation until above 100°C. Due to the very low volatility, the vapour pressure of this solid material cannot be determined by conventional vapour pressure testing methods. According to the literature (National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health. NIOSH Pocket Guide to Chemical Hazards) - the vapour pressure is at 0.01Hgmm.
Flammability (Solids).
The flammability (solids) was determined using a procedure designed to be compatible with Method A.10 Flammability (Solids) of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008. Under the conditions of the study, the test item failed to ignite, therefore it was determined that the test item was not highly flammable.
Flash point
The flash point endpoint was waived
Auto flammability
The auto flammability endpoint was waived
Flammability (Liquid).
The flammability (liquid) endpoint was waived
Flammability (Gases).
The flammability (gases) endpoint was waived
Explosivence
The explosiveness endpoint was waived
Oxidising properties
The oxidising properties endpoint was waived
Relative Self-Ignition Temperature for Solids
The auto flammability of the test item was not determined
Annex VII, Para 7.12. states that assessment of self-ignition is not required in the following circumstances:
– if the substance is explosive or ignites spontaneously with air at room temperature;
or
– for liquids non-flammable in air, e.g. no flash point up to 200°C; or
– for gases having no flammable range; or
– for solids, if the substance has a melting point < 160°C, or if preliminary results exclude self-heating of the substance up to 400°C.
Based on the flammability test and also the DSC-measurement for the boiling point, self-heating can be excluded on the basis that the preliminary results exclude self-heating of the substance up to 400°C. This test is therefore waived.
