The flammability (solids) of the test item Hostanox O 3 was performed according to EC method A.10 and according to the guideline VDI 2263, sheet 1. The test item is not highly flammable solid according to the EC Regulation No.440/2008, Method A.10. The test item has a burning number of BZ 1 according to guideline VDI 2263, sheet 1
Reference
Individual results
The test item could not be ignited with a flame. Only melting of the test item was observed. A main test was therefore not necessary.
The combustion behaviour of the product at ambient temperature is characterized by the combustion number BZ 1 (no ignition).
Final results
The test item is not a highly flammable solid in the sense of the European Commission Regulation (EC) No.440/2008, Method A.10.
The test item has a burning number of BZ 1 according to VDI 2263, sheet 1.
Description of key information
Two studies were performed to determine the flammability of ethylene bis[3,3-bis(3-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)butyrate] (Hostanox O 3, CAS 32509-66-3). One study was conducted according to the EU Method A.10 and the guideline VDI 2263, sheet 1. The other study was conducted according to the guideline VDI 2263, sheet one.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- non flammable
Additional information
According to EU Method A.10 criteria, the substance was reported to be non-highly flammable, with no ignition during preliminary test.
The two studies reported a melting of the test material, without ignition. For the two studies, a burning number (Brennzahl) of 1 (indicating no ignition of the test material) was reported.
Justification for classification or non-classification
According to CLP Regulation, Annex I, table 2.7.1 on criteria for flammable solids, and according to the Guidance an Application of the CLP Regulation, section 2.8.4.5 Decision logic, as the screening test is negative, ethylene bis[3,3 -bis(3 -tert-butyl-4 -hydroxyphenyl)butyrate] (Hostanox O 3, CAS 32509 -66 -3) should not be classified as flammable solid.
