First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures:

Always observe self protection methods. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, avoid direct contact. Move out of dangerous area. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical attention immediately. Show this material safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance.

      In case of inhalation:

Remove to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. Keep patient warm and at rest. Immediately seek medical attention. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If unconscious place in recovery position and seek medical advice. In the event of unconsciousness, apnea or cardiac arrest (no pulse) apply cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

      In case of skin contact:

Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. In case of contact, immediately flush skin with soap and plenty of water.

      In case of eyes contact:

Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician immediately.

      In case of ingestion:

Rinse mouth with water. Immediately give large quantities of water to drink. Do NOT Induce vomiting. Call a physician immediately.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed:

Inhalation of very high concentrations may cause asphyxia, anesthesia, dizziness and coma.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed:

      Treat symptomatically and supportively.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media:

Suitable extinguishing media:       Use water spray, dry chemical, carbon dioxide, or chemical foam.

Unsuitable extinguishing media:       Do not use a solid water stream as it may scatter and spread fire.

Special hazards arising from the

substance or mixture       When mixed with air and exposed to ignition source, vapors can burn in open or explode if confined. Flammable vapors may be heavier than air. Vapors may travel long distances along the ground before reaching a source of ignition and flashing back. Heat may build enough pressure to rupture closed containers/spreading fire/increasing risk of burns/injuries.

Special fire fighting methods and

special protective actions for

fire-fighters:       As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. Move containers from fire area if you can do it without risk. Cool containers with flooding quantities of water until well after fire is out. Withdraw immediately in case of rising sound from venting safety devices or discoloration of tank.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:

For non-emergency personnel:       Wear personal protective equipment. Evacuate personnel to safe areas. Remove all sources of ignition. Do not smoke. Provide adequate ventilation. Avoid dust formation. Refer to section 8 of SDS for personal protection details.

For emergency responders:       Wear relevant protective equipment (NIOSH/MSHA approved respirator if dust is generated, protective clothing, gloves and tightly fitting goggles).

Environmental Precautions:       Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system. Should not be released into the environment. If the product contaminates rivers and lakes or drains inform respective authorities.

Methods for Containment and Cleaning

up:       Ventilate area, use specified protective equipment. Remove sources of ignition. Absorb spill with inert material (e.g. vermiculite, sand or earth), then place in suitable container.

Reference to other sections:       See Section 7 for information on safe handling.

See Section 8 for information on personal protection equipment.

See Section 13 for information on disposal.

Additional information:       Not applicable.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling:

Protective measures:       Good hygienic practices should be observed. Wear respiratory protection with filter for dusts and gases. Avoid skin contact; wear protective clothing, gloves, apron, and headgear and eye protection. Work clothes should be washed separately at the end of each work day. Keep away from sources of ignition. Ensure good ventilation/exhaustion at the workplace.

Advice on general occupational

hygiene:       Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Selection of appropriate personal protective equipment should be based on an evaluation of the performance characteristics of the protective equipment relative to the task(s) to be performed, conditions present, duration of use, and the hazards and/or potential hazards that may be encountered during use. Emergency eye wash fountains and safety showers should be available in the immediate vicinity of any potential exposure. Use good personal hygiene practices. Wash hands before eating, drinking, smoking, or using toilet facilities. Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking.

Conditions for safe storage, including

any incompatibilities:       Keep away from sources of ignition. Store in a cool, dry place. Store in a tightly closed container. Flammables-area.

Specific end use(s):       Not available.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Control parameters:

Occupational exposure limits:       Not available.

Additional exposure limits under the

conditions of use:       Not available.

DNEL/DMEL and PNEC-Values:       Not available.

Exposure controls:

Appropriate engineering controls:       Use explosion-proof ventilation equipment. Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped with an eyewash facility and a safety shower. Use only under a chemical fume hood.

Individual protection measures, such as personal protective equipment:

Eye/face protection:       Wear appropriate protective eyeglasses or chemical safety goggles as described by OSHA's eye and face protection regulations in 29 CFR 1910.133 or European Standard EN166.

Hand protection:       Use chemical resistant gloves appropriate to conditions of use. The selected protective gloves have to satisfy the European norm standard EN 374. Gloves should be discarded and replaced if there is any indication of degradation or chemical breakthrough.

Body protection:       Wear appropriate protective clothing to prevent skin exposure. Flame retardant antistatic protective clothing.

Respiratory protection:       A respiratory protection program that meets OSHA's 29 CFR 1910.134 and ANSI Z88.2 requirements or European Standard EN 149 must be followed whenever workplace conditions warrant respirator use.

Thermal hazards:       Wear suitable protective clothing to prevent heat.

Environmental exposure controls:       Avoid discharge into the environment.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity:       Stable under recommended transport or storage conditions.

Chemical stability:       Stable under normal temperatures and pressures.

Possibility of hazardous reactions:       Not available

Conditions to avoid:       Incompatible materials, ignition sources, excess heat.

Incompatible materials:       Strong oxidizing agents.

Hazardous decomposition products:       Carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen fluoride gas.

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods:       Product residues and uncleaned empty containers should be packaged, sealed, labelled, and disposed of or recycled according to relevant national and local regulations. When uncleaned empty containers are passed on, the recipient must be warned of any possible hazard that may be caused by residues. If recycling is not practicable, dispose of in compliance with local regulations.

Product / Packaging disposal:       The generation of waste should be avoided or minimized wherever possible. Waste packaging should be recycled. Incineration or landfill should only be considered when recycling is not feasible. If empty container retains product residues, all label precautions must be observed. Return for reuse or dispose according to national or local regulations. Refer to manufacturer/supplier for information on recovery/recycling. Waste codes should be assigned by the user, preferably in discussion with the waste disposal authorities.
