First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures:

      Always observe self protection methods. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, avoid direct contact. Move out of dangerous area. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical attention immediately. Show this material safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance.

      In case of inhalation:

      Remove to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. Keep patient warm and at rest. Immediately seek medical attention. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If unconscious place in recovery position and seek medical advice. In the event of unconsciousness, apnea or cardiac arrest (no pulse) apply cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

      In case of skin contact:

      Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. In case of contact, immediately flush skin with soap and plenty of water.

      In case of eyes contact:

      Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician immediately.

      In case of ingestion:

      Rinse mouth with water. Immediately give large quantities of water to drink. Do NOT Induce vomiting. Call a physician immediately.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed:

      Inhalation of very high concentrations may cause asphyxia, anesthesia, dizziness and coma.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed:

      Treat symptomatically and supportively.

Extinguishing media:

Suitable extinguishing media:       Use water spray, dry chemical, carbon dioxide, or chemical foam.

Unsuitable extinguishing media:       Do not use a solid water stream as it may scatter and spread fire.

Special hazards arising from the

substance or mixture       When mixed with air and exposed to ignition source, vapors can burn in open or explode if confined. Flammable vapors may be heavier than air. Vapors may travel long distances along the ground before reaching a source of ignition and flashing back. Heat may build enough pressure to rupture closed containers/spreading fire/increasing risk of burns/injuries.

Special fire fighting methods and

special protective actions for  

fire-fighters:       As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. Move containers from fire area if you can do it without risk. Cool containers with flooding quantities of water until well after fire is out. Withdraw immediately in case of rising sound from venting safety devices or discoloration of tank.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:

For non-emergency personnel:       Wear personal protective equipment. Evacuate personnel to safe areas. Remove all sources of ignition. Do not smoke. Provide adequate ventilation. Avoid dust formation. Refer to section 8 of SDS for personal protection details.

For emergency responders:       Wear relevant protective equipment (NIOSH/MSHA approved respirator if dust is generated, protective clothing, gloves and tightly fitting goggles).

Environmental Precautions:       Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system. Should not be released into the environment. If the product contaminates rivers and lakes or drains inform respective authorities.

Appropriate engineering controls:       Use explosion-proof ventilation equipment. Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped with an eyewash facility and a safety shower. Use only under a chemical fume hood.

Eye/face protection:       Wear appropriate protective eyeglasses or chemical safety goggles as described by OSHA's eye and face protection regulations in 29 CFR 1910.133 or European Standard EN166.
