Executive summary:

EC Method A.9 (2012) - The flash point of Tetraesters of pentaerythritol with 2-methylpropanoic acid and 3,5,5-trimethyl-hexanoic acid was determined in duplicate using Pensky-Martens closed cup flash point apparatus. The test cup was filled with the prescribed volume of test substance. The apparatus was then assembled in a fume cupboard. The test flame was lit and adjusted such that it was approximately 4 mm in diameter. The test substance was stirred continuously except during the application of the test flame. The test substance was heated, the test flame applied at intervals and observations recorded.

The test was repeated using a fresh sample.

The barometric pressure at the time of testing was 1014 mbar and, thus, no pressure correction was required.

The duplicate determined flash points of Tetraesters of pentaerythritol with 2-methylpropanoic acid and 3,5,5-trimethyl-hexanoic acid were 218 °C and 216 °C. The substance is therefore not classified as flammable under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging (CLP) of substances and mixtures.
