NOAELs of 1000 mg/kg bw/day have been obtained for systemic and reproductive toxicity in fully compliant studies performed according to OECD Guidelines 407 and 421 respectively. However, the results of the OECD 421 study showed signs of systemic toxicity mainly manifested as effects on body weight/body weight gain in males and clinical signs and increased water consumption in both sexes treated at 1000 mg/kg bw/day resulting in a lower NOEL of 150 mg/kg bw/day. The results contained in the subacute and chronic inhalation studies in rats, although highly reassuring, were considered not appropriate to be used as a starting point to derive long-term inhalation DNELs because the experimental designs deviated significantly from standard guidelines (only single concentrations investigated, limited number of animals of a single sex, very limited parameters investigated). On this basis, the lowest NOEL of 150 mg.kg bw/day obtained in the OECD 421 study was considered the most appropriate toxicological endpoint for setting the DNELs. As discussed in the toxicokinetics section, the substance is not expected to be absorbed through the skin and a default value of 10% was considered appropriate and protective for risk assessment purposes.

Based upon the available information the substance has not been classified according to CLP Regulation (EC No 1272/2008) for adverse effects to human health. According to Directive EC 1272/2008 the substance should be classified as irritating to the Eye: Category 2, causes serious eye irritation.
