Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
hydrolysis
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
comparable to guideline study
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 111 (Hydrolysis as a Function of pH)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Initial observations showed rapid degradation in minutes in diluted form
Only performed at 'natural' unbuffered pH 4.4; it is known that pH does not influence the rate of degradation of these highly unstable substances
The volatiles could be detected by analyzing the evaporates from the hydrolyzed The Test Substance by GC chromatograms.
The TIPA content in The Test Sample was very small, therefore, analysing the DEG, EG and PG content degraded from the test substance would indicate the hydrolysis, which was measured by comparing the peak area in GC chromatograms.
GLP compliance:
no
Remarks:
The hydrolysis rate is too fast and rigorous guideline test is not possible.

Preliminary study:
The diluent could be further diluted till 1:1000 in DI water and the appearance observed become cloudy in 30 minutes. The observation was done in duplicate to confirm the hydrolysis status.

Details on hydrolysis and appearance of transformation product(s):
Cloudy appearance on dilution in water as titanium dioxide precipitated out
pH:
4.4
Temp.:
25 °C
DT50:
<= 30 min
Validity criteria fulfilled:
not applicable
Conclusions:
The target substance degradeed rapidly when diluted in water, with formation of titanium dioxide as a precipitate within minutes. Half-life not possible to measure, but considered to be less than 30 minutes.

The recorded degradation products are titanium dioxide, propan-2-ol, triisopropanolamine, diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol. The organic products are known to biodegrade readily.

Description of key information
