Description of key information

TS-ED 532 was tested to investigate the bioaccumulation potential in zebra fish larvae (Danio rerio) using a modified in-vitro procedure based on the OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No. 305 “Bioconcentration: Flow-through Fish Test", which corresponds to the EU Testing Method C.13 Bioconcentration: Flow-through fish test. Based on the mean BCFss results, a conservative estimate of BCF was 981 ± 330, resulting in a log BCF of 2.99 ± 0.14.

TS-ED 532 is degraded in the environment and metabolised in organisms. Due to its chemical composition, it was not possible to detect actual accumulated concentrations in the organism, why the test was performed with radiolabelled TS-ED 532. Adult stages of zebra fish are generally having a higher metabolising capacity than larval stage and the bioaccumulation study was thus performed with larval stages of zebra fish with a low metabolising capacity, which represents a ‘worst-case’ evaluation of the bioaccumulation potential of TS-ED 532.

Besides the control group, two concentrations were tested i.e 35 µg/L and 70 µg/L. Each concentration was tested in two replicates. The actual exposure concentrations as well as the accumulated amount of TS-ED 532 were verified by determination of the radiolabelled TS-ED 532 by liquid scintillation counting (LSC).

 

The bioconcentration factor (BCF) was determined as the steady-state BCF (BCFss) as well as based on uptake and depuration rate kinetics (BCFk). Based on the mean BCFss results, a conservative estimate of BCF was 981 ± 330, resulting in a log BCF of 2.99 ± 0.14.
