Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Short-term toxicity to fish

In the 96-hour test according to OECD Guideline 203 on Danio rerio the read across substance Yellow 22 (CAS 90268 -98 -7) had no toxic effect on fish at aquatic saturation (i.e. limit test concentration). Accordingly, the 96 -h NOEC was determined to be 0.040 mg/L and the LOEC > 0.040 mg/L (based on total product), equivalent to 100 mg/L and > 100 mg/L nominal loading rate respectively.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

In a Daphnia sp. Acute Immobilisation Test according to OECD Guideline 202, the 48-h EC50 was higher than the solubility level of the test item in the test medium, which corresponds to a geometric mean measured concentration of 0.193 mg/L and a nominal loading rate of 100 mg/L.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

The test item is a dye which stains the water and makes the performance of an algae toxicity study technically impossible. Thus, the study does not need to be performed according to REACH Regulation Annex XI, section 2.

Toxicity to aquatic plants other than algae

In a Growth Inhibition Test with Lemna gibba according to OECD 221 and Commission Regulation (EC) No 761/2009, Annex VI, C.26 the 7-d EC10, EC50 and LOEC of the test item for growth rate and biomass, respectively, were determined to be > 0.916 mg/L (geom. mean measured). The 7-d  NOEC of the test item both for growth rate and biomass was determined to be 0.916 mg/L (geom. mean measured).

Toxicity to microorganisms

In an Activated Sludge, Respiration Inhibition Test with the read across substance Yellow 22 (CAS 90268-98-7) according to OECD Guideline 209, no influence on the specific respiration rates up to 1000 mg/L (nominal) were shown. The 3-h EC50 was > 1000 mg/L (nominal) and the NOEC (3h) was 1000 mg/L (nominal).
