Studies evaluating the short term toxicity of the substance hydroxylammonium chloride (CAS 5470-11-1) to aquatic organisms are available for three trophic levels (fish, aquatic invertebrates and algae). Although the aquatic effect concentrations for toxicity are in the same order of magnitude for all trophic levels, algae were the most sensitive trophic level with an ErC50 (72 h) of 0.21 mg/L and an ErC10 (72 h) of 0.075 mg/L (both geom. mean meas.).
Furthermore a study testing the respiration inhibition of the substance to activated sludge microorganisms is available and resulted in a 3 h EC10 (total respiration rate inhibition) of 1.7 mg/L (nominal).
