Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The IC50 value for inhibition of respiration rate is considered as the most representative value for the toxicity in wastewater treatment systems. Therefore, the toxicity to microorganisms of the target substance is conservatively set to IC50 of 19 mg/L based on read-across from C16 TMA bromide. The IC50 value 19 mg/l, reported will be used for derivation of PNEC (stp).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
19 mg/L

Additional information

Data on toxicity to microorganisms were obtained for sludge inhibition and for effects on metabolism of microorganisms in a standard test with Photobacterium phosphoreum. Compared to the studies on inhibition of microorganisms in sludge, studies on toxicity in low-biomass test systems have generally indicated much higher toxicity under these conditions. In most cases the microbial populations have not been acclimated by previous exposure to the substances. Therefore the significance of these tests is doubtful for representing the toxicity in wastewater treatment systems.
