Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
25 July 2008 to 07 November 2008
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: see 'Remark'
Remarks:
Study conducted to GLP in compliance with agreed protocols, with no or minor deviations from standard test guidelines and/or minor methodological deficiencies, which do not affect the quality of the relevant results. The study report was conclusive, done to a valid guideline, and the study was conducted under GLP conditions.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Test procedure:
burning time (test type not further specified)
Remarks:
or specified in description of method (migrated information)
Remarks on result:
other: The test material failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test.

Preliminary Screening Test

The test material pile failed to ignite during the two minutes that the Bunsen burner flame was applied. The result of the preliminary screening test obviated the need to perform the main test.

The test material has been determined to be not highly flammable as it failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test.

Interpretation of results:
other: Not classified according to EU criteria
Conclusions:
Under the conditions of the study, the test material has been determined to be not highly flammable as it failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test.
Executive summary:

The flammability (solids) of the test material was determined under GLP conditions and in accordance with the standardised guideline EU Method A.10. The test material pile failed to ignite during the two minutes that the Bunsen burner flame was applied. The result of the preliminary screening test obviated the need to perform the main test. The test material has been determined to be not highly flammable as it failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test. The test material was therefore concluded to be non-flammable.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with section 1.5 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be performed as based on chemical structure water reactivity is not to be expected.
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with section 1.5 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be performed as based on chemical structure pyrophoric properties are not to be expected.

Description of key information

Flammability (solids)

Non- flammable, EU Method A.10, Atwal & Woolley (2008)

Flammability (pyrophoric properties)

In accordance with section 1.5 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be performed as based on chemical structure pyrophoric properties are not to be expected.

Flammability (contact with water)

In accordance with section 1.5 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be performed as based on chemical structure water reactivity is not to be expected.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The flammability (solids) of the test material was determined under GLP conditions and in accordance with the standardised guideline EU Method A.10. The study was assigned a reliability score of 1 in line with the principles for assessing data quality as defined by Klimisch (1997).

Justification for classification or non-classification

In accordance with the criteria for classification as defined in Annex I, Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008, the substance does not require classification with respect to flammability.
