Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
In a glass reaction vessel, introduce 1 litre of demineralised water and the pidolic acid salt respectively, until a saturated solution is obtained. The reagent vessel is then constantly stirred. The temperature of the mixture is heated to 80°C for 3 hours in order to ensure that the solution is saturated with pidolic acid salt.

The stirring process is subsequently stopped to allow the insoluble part of the pidolic acid salt to form sediment and, after 15 minutes of sedimentation, a sample is collected from the upper phase and tested. The sample, thus obtained is diluted to ½ in order to avoid parasite crystallisation of the product.

The reagent is then replaced with stirring and the temperature is adjusted as required. Once the temperature is reached, the mixture ismaintained at this temperature for 1 hour before collecting a new sample according to the afore-mentioned procedure.
This procedure was carried out at 20°C; 30°C, 40°C, 50°C, 60°C, 70°C and 80°C.

The concentration of the solution is determined by measuring the dry matter obtained at 115°C for 15 hours.
