First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures
General information:
As in all cases of potential poisoning, seek medical advice and show the safety data sheet or the label.

In case of inhalation:
Remove the individual to fresh air in case of accidental inhalation of vapours, and keep warm at rest. Consult a doctor in case of respiratory difficulty, unease or persistent headaches.
If exposure to decomposition products:
- Move to fresh air in case of accidental inhalation of fumes from overheating or combustion.
- Oxygen or artificial respiration if needed.
- Call a physician immediately.

In case of skin contact:
SENSITISER, EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE. Take off immediately all contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash skin and hair with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Immediate medical attention is required.

In case of eye contact:
Remove contact lens and wash thoroughly with soft and clean water for at least 15 minutes, maintaining the eyelids wide open. Do not allow water to flow into the uncontaminated eye. Immediate medical attention is required.

In case of ingestion:
Rinse mouth with water and spit out. Do not give anything to drink or eat, and do NOT try to make vomit without medical advice. Call a physician immediately.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media
Suitable extinguishing media:
Dry powder, carbon dioxide (CO2), alcohol-resistant foam or water mist extinguishers should be used.
Unsuitable extinguishing media: none.

Special hazard arising from the substance or mixture
EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE liquid and vapour.
Flash back possible over considerable distance.
Explosion risk in case of fire.
Thermal decomposition can lead to release of toxic and corrosive gases.

Advice for firefighters
- Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective suit.
- When intervention in close proximity wear acid resistant over suit.
- Evacuate personnel to safe areas.
- Approach from upwind.
- Protect intervention team with a water spray as they approach the fire.
- Keep containers and surroundings cool with water spray.
- Keep product and empty container away from heat and sources of ignition.
DANGEROUS FOR THE ENVIRONMENT: Contain water/extinguishing media for controlled elimination.
Move undamaged containers from immediate hazard area if it can be done safely, or use water spray jet to protect personnel and to cool endangered containers.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

As general protective measures:
EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE. Remove any ignition source. Stay away from naked flames or other potential sources of ignition (e.g. electrical equipment). NO SMOKING.
Avoid skin contamination and inhalation of vapours.
Adequate protective gloves and half mask should be worn when handling spillages.
Individual washing routines should be followed after any potential contact.
Ensure adequate ventilation in working areas following accidental releases.

Advice for non-emergency personnel:
Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so.
Remove all unnecessary people for the area that could be contaminated by vapours.

For emergency personnel:
- Ventilate the area.
- Vapours are heavier than air and can cause suffocation by reducing oxygen available for breathing.
- Sweep up to prevent slipping hazard.
- Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition.
- Refer to protective measures listed in "Personnal Protection" paragraph for PPE.

Environmental precautions
The substance is DANGEROUS FOR THE AQUATIC ENVIRONMENT:
Do not discharge directly into drains, soil or aquatic environment. Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system.
Inform competent authorities when the situation cannot be controlled rapidly and adequately, or if the product contaminates natural environment.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
For containment:
- Suppress (knock down) gases/vapours/mists with a water spray jet.
- Soak up with inert absorbent material.
- Suitable material for picking up
- Earth
- Dry sand

Gross spillages have to be contained by the use of sand or inert powder. Do not reuse. Do not reintroduce into the original container. Collect into a suitable and labelled container. Treat as waste, disposal of this should be in accordance with Government Regulations.
Cover drains to prevent entry of the product in the sewer system. Avoid contamination of natural environment (soil, waters).

For cleaning-up:
Shovel into suitable container for disposal.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Protective measures
Measures to prevent fire:
EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE.
- Ensure adequate ventilation.
- Keep away from heat and sources of ignition.
- To avoid thermal decomposition, do not overheat.
- Purge piping circuits and equipment with nitrogen.
- Keep container tightly closed.
- Ground/bond container and receiving equipment.
- Use explosion-proof electrical/ventilating/lighting/…/equipment.
- Use only non-sparking tools.
- Take precautionary measures against static discharge.

Measures to prevent health disease
SENSITISER. Avoid breathing dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/ spray. Wear appropriate protective clothes and adequate gloves (see Personal Protection paragraph). Wash hands thoroughly after handling. Take off contaminated clothing and wash it before reuse. Contaminated work clothing should not be allowed out of the workplace.

Measures to prevent the environment:
DANGEROUS FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
Provide for retaining container. Avoid release to the environment.

Advice on general occupational hygiene
Observe the usual precautions for handling organic chemicals.
Avoid contact with skin, eyes and inhalation of vapours/dust/mist.
Good personal washing routines should be followed. Wash hands before breaks and after work.
When using do not eat, drink or smoke. Avoid breathing vapour and spray.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
- Keep away from heat and sources of ignition.
- Keep in a cool, well-ventilated place.
- Keep away from direct sunlight.
- Keep away from combustible material.
- Keep away from Incompatible products, such as oxidizing and self-igniting products.
- Store in closed, preferably full, properly labelled, tightly closed containers. Do not re-use the empty container.

Suitable packaging material
- Stainless steel
