Skin irritation
Irritation of the skin was evaluated in a study performed under GLP according to OECD guideline 404. Three New Zealand White rabbits were treted with 0.5 g of the test substance under semiocclusive conditions for 4 hours and observed for 14 days. The resulting mean scores for edema and erythema from 24 to 72 h were both 0, respectively. Thus, the test material showed no skin irritation.
Eye irritation
The acute eye irritation was analyzed in a study performed under GLP according to OECD guideline 405. 100 mg of the the test substance was instilled into the eyes of 3 New Zealand White rabbits and reactions were observed up to 15 days. The resulting mean scores after 24 to 72 hours for cornea, iris and conjunctival erythema and chemosis were found to be 0.4, 0.4, 1.9 and 1.0, respectively. However, due to severe irritation effects observed in one animal, this animal was sacrified prior to scheduled study end. Therefore, the test substance was calssified to be an eye irritant.
