According to a Mackay Level I model calculation, the main target compartment for cyclododecanone will be the atmosphere (36.3 %), followed by sediment (21.5 %), soil (21.3 %) and water (20.7 %). The calculated Henry’s law constant of 4.98 Pa m3/mol indicates moderate volatility of cyclododecanone from surface waters. With a calculated Koc of 596.4 l/kg, the sorption potential of cyclododecanone to soil or sediment organic matter is expected to be medium (Blume scale).

The QSAR calculated rate constant for the OH sensitized photodegradation of cyclododecanone is approximately 2.06E-11 cm3/(molecule * s). At 500,000 OH radicals / cm3 (approximate 24-hour mean in central Europe), this corresponds to a half-life of 18.7 hours. Cyclododecanone was found readily biodegradable. Biodegradation and atmospheric OH sensitized photodegradation are expected to be the predominant ways of removal from the environment while photolytical or hydrolytical degradation in surface water are expected to be of minor importance. The partition coefficient 1-octanol/water of cyclododecanone is log Kow = 4.10 at 25 °C, indicating a significant potential for bioaccumulation.
