Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
auto-ignition temperature (liquids)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
18-24 August 2010
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study without detailed documentation
Remarks:
The study was conducted according to an internationally recognised method, and under GLP. No deviation affected the quality of the study. The substance is adequately identified, but details on composition are missing. Therefore validation applies with restrictions.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.15 (Auto-Ignition Temperature (Liquids and Gases))

Regulation (EC) No 440/2008
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
DIN 51794 (Testing of mineral oil hydrocarbons - Determination of ignition temperature)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Not applicable
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:
12 Jan. 2007
Key result
Auto-ignition temperature:
205 °C

The auto ignition temperature (result of determination) is the lowest value from the lowest values of the three experiments, rounded down to a whole multiple of 5 °C. Therefore, the auto ignition temperature is stated as 205 °C.

The three lowest values of the main study lay within a range of 10 K (as required for auto ignition temperatures below 300 °C)

Detailed observations are available in the study report.

Conclusions:
This parameter/method is not relevant for classification; however the information is useful regarding process safety and potential additional fire hazard.
No particular hazard is anticipated in normal conditions of storage.
Executive summary:

The auto-ignition temperature of the substance was tested under GLP, according to DIN 51794 standard (listed in EU A.15 guideline).

The test substance was injected into a heated flask, until the lowest temperature at which ignition occurs was determined. Three independent determinations were performed.

The auto-ignition temperature (rounded down to a whole multiple of 5 °C) of test item was stated as 205°C at 98905 Pa.

Description of key information

No particular hazard is anticipated in normal conditions of storage.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature at 101 325 Pa:
205 °C

Additional information

A reliable experimental study, conducted according to a recognized DIN/EU method and under GLP, is available.

Despite minor restrictions due to incomplete test item identification, it is considered as key study, and the result is retained as key data.

This parameter is not relevant for classification, however the information is useful regarding process safety and potential additional fire hazard.
