Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

A number of studies have been carried out to assess the toxicity of 2 -(2 -butoxyethoxy)ethanol to micro-organism using multiple species in fresh water. These studies that are reliable indicate that the substance is practically non-toxic to micro-organisms. One study reported lower toxicity threshold to one particular species than the value chosen as the key parameter. Since this study was performed over a longer period than is usual, its use is likely to over-estimate the toxicity of the substance. They key parameter is selected from a study to assess the toxicity to micro-organisms; activated sludge was exposed to 2 -(2 -butoxyethoxy)ethanol at nominal concentrations and under static conditions. No respiration inhibition was observed up to the maximum tested concentration of 1995mg/l. Based on the results of this study, this substance has low toxicity to bacteria or waste water treatment systems.
