Description of key information

Considering that acetic acid is one of the strongest organic acid,
refering to annex VI of the regulation EC 1278/2008, in which acetic acid has been classified as not corrosive to metals and
assuming the fact that the acid capacity is one of the main criterion to determine the corrosivity of a substance;
we can conclude that the substance 4-HBA, which is less acid than acetic acid, could not be corrosive to metals.
NB: The criteria for substances and mixtures corrosive to metals stipulate that a substance is corrosive to metal if the corrosion rate on either steel or aluminium surfaces exceeding 6,25 mm per year at a test temperature of 55°C when tested on both steel and aluminium.
