Principles of method if other than guideline:
Flash point was determined using ASTM D3828. The results of the flammability burning train test, which is applicable to powdery, granular or paste-like substances, cannot be used to argue that there is no flash point for this test substance. The highly viscous nature of this material coupled with the assumption of a low thermal conductivity necessitates the use of an equilibrium closed cup test method. It was assumed that the individual components are near perfectly mixed therefore ASTM D3828 is an appropriate non-agitated test method conforming to the requirements of ISO-3679. This non-agitated method is appropriate only if the assumption of uniform component distribution is valid and provided that the test substance will not tend to form a surface skin during the test.
