Description of key information

For Ethylene glycol dimethacrylate short-term toxicity data for all three trophic level are available. EGDMA does not need to be classified for acute toxicity to aquatic organisms based on the data for fish [LC50 (96h): 15.95 mg/l], daphnia magna [EC50 (48h): 44.9 mg/l) or algae [EC50: 17.3 mg/l]).

Chronic aquatic toxicity studies are available for daphnia magna and algae indicating a EC10 for daphnia magna of 7.22 mg/l and ErC10 for algae of 6.93 mg/l. No chronic data are available for fish. Because adequate chronic toxicity data are thus only available for two trophic levels, additionally the short-term toxicity data of fish [LC50 (96h) of 15.95 mg/l] must be considered for the assessment of the long-term toxicity.

Triggered by the acute fish data (L(E)C50 value in the range of >10 to≤100 mg/l), EGDMA needs to be classified for chronic toxicity to aquatic organism with Aquatic Chronic Category 3 according to CLP Regulation EC No 1272/2008.

The available aquatic toxicity data allow a conservative environemtal risk assessment of the substance, showing no risk. To adress the remaining uncertainty because no long-term toxicity data with fish are available, the assessment factor was adjusted from 50 (for two chronic data available) to 100 (please see the justification for waiving for long-term toxicity with fish for more information).
