The BCF for 2-ethylhexyl salicylate was estimated to be 123.7 L/kg ww.

Additional information

Bioaccumulation, as typically evaluated in fish using BCF and BAF measurements and model predictions, is the net result of competing rates of uptake and elimination in an organism. Key chemical properties include hydrophobicity, dissociation potential and exposure pH. Key organism properties include body size, lipid content, metabolic biotransformation potential, and the relative uptake rates from the major routes of exposure (water, diet).

2-Ethylhexyl salicylate is considered having a half-life in fish of less than a day (category Fast). Therefore, a linear model not considering bio-elimination from the organism is less suitable and instead the method of Arnot and Gobas was used to take this into account, which is built of the Method prepared for the Environmental Protection Agency by Meylan et al. 1997 - 1999.

Thus, a more reliable BCF estimation was received predicting the BCF in fish (upper trophic level) being 123.7 L/kg ww. Based on the predicted results the substance 2-ethylhexyl salicylate is considered non-bioaccumulative.
