Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.5 (Surface Tension)
Deviations:
no
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The test vessel was half-filled with liquid, put on the tensiometer test platform, and raised so that the ring was 2 - 3 mm below the liquid surface. The platform was lowered to draw a lamella from the liquid surface. The maximum force which arose just before the lamella was torn off is the surface tension and was recorded by the chart recorder. Measurements were made at 2 minute intervals until a constant value (to within 0.1 mN/m) were recorded. The room temperature was monitored throughout the test.
The following order of tests were performed using the above method: distilled water, test solution 1, test solution 2 and distilled water.
GLP compliance:
yes
Type of method:
OECD harmonised ring method

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The surface tension of a lg/I aqueous solution ofUK-143,108 is 71.8 mN/m at 16.5°C.

Under the terms of the EEC Directive UK-143, 108 is not considered to be a surface active material at 16.5°C because the surface tension is greater than 60 mN/m.
