Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
The physical and chemical properties of the substance Fatty acids, 16 -18 (even numbered), ammonium salts are as follows:
Appearance/physical state/colour: The substance is a solid based on company data.
Melting point: Data waiving: The study is technically not feasible since the substance decomposes before melting.
Boling point: Data waiving: The study does not need to be conducted since the substance decomposes before boiling.
Density: Pycnometer method (UNE 55-702-82). The density of test item was determined to be 0.9479 g/ml at 25 ºC.
Particle size distribution: Data waiving: The study does not need to be conducted since the substance is marketed or used in a non solid or granular form.
Vapour pressure: 3.38E-006 Pa at 25 ºC (EPI-Suite, MPBPWIN v1.43)
Partition coefficient (log Pow): Log Kow = 5.07 (EPI-Suite, KOWWIN v1.68).
Water solubility: The water solubility of the substance was determined to be <0.05 mg/L at 23 ºC.
Surface tension: Data waiving: The study does not need to be conducted since the water solubility is below 1 mg/l at 20 ºC.
Flash point: Data waiving: The study does not need to be conducted since the substance is a solid.
Auto flammability: Data waiving: The study is not technically feasible since the substance decomposes in contact with air.
Flammability: Flammability (solids): Data waiving: The study is not technically feasible since the substance decomposes in contact with air. Flammability on contact with water: Data waiving: Based on experience on handling and use, the substance is stable and does not became spontaneously flammable or emit flammable gases in contact with water. Pyrophoric properties: Data waiving: Based on experience on handling and use, the substance is stable and does not spontaneously ignite when exposed to air.
Explosiveness: Non-explosive. The study does not need to be conducted since there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule.
Oxidising properties: Non-oxidizer. The study does not need to be conducted since the substance is incapable of reaction exothermically with combustible materials on the basis of the chemical structure.
Stability in organic solvents: Data waiving: The study is only required if stability of the substance is considered to be critical.
Dissociation constant: Data waiving: The study is technically not feasible since the substance has a low water solubility (<0.05 mg/L).
Supporting data: The dissociation constant of Fatty acids, C16 -18 (even numbered), ammonium salts would be pKa(1) = 9.25 weak base and pKa(2) = 4.9 weak acid.
Viscosity: Data waiving: The study does not need to be conducted since the substance is a solid.
