Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Hexyl D-glucoside (CAS: 54549-24-5) is not harmful to aquatic algae under conditions tested.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The toxic effects of hexyl D-glucoside (CAS: 54549-24-5) to marine and freshwater algae were evaluated. For the freshwater compartment the green algae Scenedesmus subspicatus was used for testing according to “OECD Guideline 201 (Alga, Growth Inhibition Test)”. The test exhibited an EC50 (72 h) of 780 mg a.i./L and a NOEC of 125 mg a.i./L based on the growth rate (Mead, 1998). For the marine compartment the algae Skeletonema costatum was used for testing. This test was performed equivalent or similar to “ISO 10253 (Water quality - Marine Algal Growth Inhibition Test with Skeletonema costatum and Phaeodactylum tricornutum)” and resulted in an EL50 (72 h) of 435 mg/L and a NOEL (72 h) of 180 mg/L based on the growth rate (Svalheim, 2003). It should be regarded that this result is based on nominal concentrations prepared by water accommodated fraction (WAF) without analytics.
