Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The relative density of o-xylene at 20 °C was reported as 0.88. The density of m-xylene , and the relative density at 20 °C as 0.86. The density of p-xylene , and the relative density at 20 °C as 0.86. The density of ethylbenzene , and the relative density at 20 °C as 0.87.

The mean value of 0.87 at 20 °C will be used for the risk assessment.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Relative density at 20C:
0.87

Additional information

The Merck Handbook (O'Neil 2006) and the NIOSH pocket guide (Barsan 2007) are peer reviewed handbooks and so can be considered reliable and suitable for use for this endpoint. The data are supported by results at 25 °C from the CRC Handbook (CRC 2008), which reported the densities of o-xylene, m-xylene, p-xylene, and ethylbenzene as 0.88, 0.86, 0.86, and 0.86 g/cm3 respectively,
