Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Three studies are available investigating the biodegradation in water. The key study was conducted by Richterich (1992). In this non-GLP study following OECD guideline 301D non-adapted activated sludge from municipal sewage treatment plant was used as inoculum. Two concentrations of the test item were applied, i.e. 2 and 5 mg/L. Oxygen consumption was followed for 28 days. At the end of the test degradation rates of 90% and 71% were reached for the 2 and 5 mg/L concentrations, respectively. The 10-day criterion was fulfilled and the test item is considered to be readily biodegradable.

This observation is supported by two further studies conducted. Based on a similar study design (OECD 301D, non-GLP) Krach (1999) reports 82% biodegradation also fulfilling the 10-day criterion. The second supporting study was conducted by Laud (2013). This GLP-study using marine water followed ISO/TC 147/SC 5/WG 4N 141 (Marine BODIS Test). No inoculum was added. Marine microorganisms naturally occurring in the seawater served as test organisms. Biodegradation was determined measuring oxygen consumption. After 28 days of exposure 87% degradation were reached.
