Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

Endpoint:
viscosity
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: see 'Remark'
Remarks:
Reliability was rated as 2 because viscosity of test substance was determined using ASTM D-445 method and was not carried under GLP. However, the methodology for viscosity determination is commonly used in the US lubricant industry and is considered scientifically sound and acceptable. The ASTM method is similar or equivalent to the OECD or EPA test methods.

Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
other: ASTM D-445
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Summary of ASTM D-445 method: The time is measured for a fixed volume of liquid to flow under gravity through the capillary of a calibrated viscometer under a reproducible driving head and at a closely controlled and known temperature. The determined kinematic viscosity value is the product of the measured flow time and the calibration constant of the viscometer.
GLP compliance:
no
Remarks:
Test was compliant with ASTM method
Type of method:
capillary viscometer (static)
