Additional information

One experimental study is available investigating the biodegradation of ethylene diformate (CAS 629-15-2) (Roulstone, 2013). The study was performed according to OECD 301B under GLP conditions. An initial test was carried out which showed that the test item was not readily biodegradable. However as the test item is known to hydrolyse to formic acid and ethylene glycol, both of which are readily biodegradable, this result was considered to be anomalous. Therefore, a second test was carried out using the same conditions as the first which resulted in 42% degradation after 2 days and 85% degradation after 14 days thereby satisfying the 10-day window validation criterion. At the end of the study after 28 d the substance reached a biodegradation of 86%. In conclusion, the test material can be considered to be readily biodegradable according to the OECD criteria.
