In an OECD 301F ready biodegradability study, EC 202-228-8 at a concentration of 20 mg/L attained a maximum mean level of biodegradation (based on the BOD:ThOD ratio) of 11%. Less than 60% degradation was achieved within the 10-day window, so EC 202-228-8 cannot be classified as readily biodegradable. This lack of biodegradation can be in part put down to the fact the EC 202-228-8 is inhibitory to microorganisms as outlined in the OECD 209 study (IUCLID section 6.1.7), which showed the NOEC for inhibition to microorganisms to be <10 mg/L.

Based on the results of this OECD 301F study, EC 202-228-8 is not readily biodegradable.
