Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Surface Tension: > 60 mN/m at 20.0 ± 0.5 °C in 90% saturated solution; 59.4 mN/m in the presence of surface active by-products, EU Method A.5, Wil Research B.V. 2014

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The surface tension was determined using the ring method of EU Method A.5 and OECD 115. Substances showing a surface tension lower than 60 mN/m under the conditions of this method, should be regarded as being surface active. The surface tension of a test solution at 90% of the test substance saturation solubility in water has been determined to be 59.4 mN/m at 20.0 ± 0.5 °C. However, it is concluded that under the conditions of this study, since the surface tension is determined in 90% saturated solution the substance (at 615 mg/l) should not be considered to be surface active. This is due to the presence of an epoxy group. This group may undergo hydrolysis in 90% saturated aqueous solution; forming trace quantities of corresponding surface active by-product(s) leading to false-positive surface tension measurement during the course of the study (surface tension: < 60 mN/m).
