Test guideline
- Qualifier:
- no guideline followed
- Principles of method if other than guideline:
- The purpose of the study was to compare 4 in vitro short-term assays predicting the cytotoxic potency of different substances including hexylamine.
Test systems were the followings:
1) Inhibition of cell growth in Ascites sarcoma BP 8 cells,
2) Inhibition of oxidative metabolism in hamster brown fat cells,
3) Membrane damage of human diploid embryonic lung fibroblasts,
4) Inhibition of the ciliary activity using chicken embryo trachea. - GLP compliance:
- no

Results and discussion
- Details on results:
- The relative toxicity is given in mean activity of the substance which is expressed with the aid of the following 10-point scale:
0= 0-9% activity,
1= 10-19% activity,
2= 20-29% and so on.
For hexylamine, values were as follow:
1) Inhibition of cell growth test: 2
2) Inhibition of oxidative metabolism: 2
3) Membrane damage: 9
4) Inhibition of ciliary activity: 0
The mean activity based on the four tests taken together was: 3.3
