Advice for firefighters

Special protective equipment for firefighters : Wear self contained breathing apparatus for fire fighting if necessary.

Personal protective equipment comprising: suitable protective gloves, safety goggles and protective clothing

Further information : Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. This must not be discharged into drains.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures: Avoid contact with the skin and the eyes.

Do not allow uncontrolled discharge of product into the environment.

Personal protective equipment

Wear suitable protective clothing.

Wear suitable gloves.

Safety glasses

Face-shield

Stop the leak. Turn leaking containers leak-side up to prevent the escape of liquid.

Environmental precautions : Dam up.

Prevent product from entering drains.

Methods for Cleaning or Taking Up

Recovery : Contain spillage, soak up with non-combustible absorbent material, (e.g. sand, earth, diatomaceous earth, vermiculite) and transfer to a

container for disposal according to local / national regulations

Pick up and transfer to properly labelled containers.

Keep in suitable, closed containers for disposal.

Decontamination/cleaning : Wash off with plenty of water.

Recover the cleaning water for subsequent disposal.

Disposal : Dispose of in accordance with local regulations.

Additional advice : Material can create slippery conditions.

Handling and storage

Handling

Technical measures : Does not require any specific or particular measures.

Advice on safe handling and usage : Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice.

Storage

Technical Measures for storage : Take all necessary measures to avoid accidental discharge of products into drains and waterways due to the rupture of containers or transfer systems.

Storage conditions

Recommended : Stable under normal conditions.

Keep container tightly closed.

Keep in a well-ventilated place.

Keep in a dry, cool place.

Keep away from heat and sources of ignition.

Keep away from incompatible materials to be indicated by the manufacturer

Store in original container.

Incompatible products : Strong bases

Strong acids

Strong oxidizing agents

Strong reducing agents.

materials or products which react with water.

Packaging Measures

Packaging conditions : Plastic drum

Packaging materials - Recommended : Plastic materials.

Storage temperature : < 30 °C

Exposure controls / personal protection

Control measures

Engineering measures : Avoid splashes.

Provide adequate ventilation.

Extract at emission point.

Personal protective equipment

Respiratory protection : Use a respirator with an approved filter if a risk assessment indicates this is necessary.

Hand protection : Where there is a risk of contact with hands, use appropriate gloves

Gloves must be inspected prior to use.

The selected protective gloves have to satisfy the specifications of EU Directive 89/686/EEC and the standard EN 374 derived from it.

Please observe the instructions regarding permeability and breakthrough time which are provided by the supplier of the gloves. Also take into consideration the specific local conditions under which the product is used, such as the danger of cuts, abrasion, and the contact time.

Eye protection : Safety glasses with side-shields conforming to EN166

In case of contact through splashing:

Safety glasses with side-shields

Face-shield

Skin and body protection : Protective suit

Choose body protection according to the amount and concentration of the dangerous substance at the work place.

Hygiene measures : Emergency equipment immediately accessible, with instructions for use.

Ensure that eyewash stations and safety showers are close to the workstation location.

Use clean, well-maintained personal protection equipment.

Wash hands before breaks and at the end of workday.

When using do not eat, drink or smoke.

Protective measures : The protective equipment must be selected in accordance with current CEN standards and in cooperation with the supplier of the protective equipment.

Selection of appropriate personal protective equipment should be based on an evaluation of the performance characteristics of the protective equipment relative to the task(s) to be performed, conditions present, duration of use, and the potential hazards and/or risks that may occur during use.

General advice : Dam up.

Prevent product from entering drains.

Stability and reactivity

Chemical stability : Stable under normal conditions.

Hazardous reactions

Materials to avoid :

Strong bases

Strong acids

Strong oxidizing agents

Strong reducing agents

materials or products which react with water.

Decomposition products : On combustion or on thermal decomposition (following the evaporation of

water) releases:

Sodium oxides

Oxides of phosphorus

(Carbon oxides (CO + CO2)).

Disposal considerations

Product Disposal:

Prohibition : Should not be released into the environment.

Advice on Disposal : Dispose of as hazardous waste in compliance with local and national regulations.

Advice on cleaning and disposal of packaging:

Measures for waste avoidance : Do not dispose of the product at a rubbish tip.

Advice : Completely empty the packaging prior to decontamination.

Carefully drain and then steam clean.

Reason for waste disposal : Recycle following cleaning.

Dispose of contents/ container to an approved waste disposal plant.

Other data :

In accordance with RID/ADR regulations containers or tankers,

which have not been cleaned or deodorized and which previously

contained a hazardous product, must either be labelled or have hazard signs.

Dispose of in accordance with local regulations.
