First-aid measures

- Inhalation: Move to fresh air, rest, half upright position, loosen clothing. Oxygen or artificial respiration if there is difficulty in breathing. Always seek medical advice after significant exposure.

- Eyes: Rinse immediately and as long as possible with plenty of water. Eyelids should be held away from the eyeball to ensure thorough rinsing.

- Skin: Remove all contaminated clothing immediately. Wash off with plenty of soap and water. Launder clothes before re-use.

- Ingestion: Only when conscious, rinse mouth, give plenty of water to drink. DO NOT induce vomiting.

Always seek medical advice.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Dry chemical powder, pressurized with nitrogen. Vermiculite

UNSUITABLE: waterjet

Product arising from burning: Theoretical: carbon dioxide, water and boron oxide

Protective equipment: Wear a standard aluminised firefighting suit. Wear self-contained breathing apparatus.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Avoid any contact. Do not breath fumes/vapour. Wear suitable personal protection. Isolate spill area.

After fire has been extinguished or has been allowed to burn out completely, wait considerable time (until smoke is no longer observed). After that, carefully wash spill area with a water spray.

Handling and storage

Handling: Do not eat, drink or smoke during handling. Do not breathe fumes/vapour. Handle only in closed system. Avoid contact with air, moisture or water. Keep under nitrogen. Apply earthing when transferring from one container to another. During sampling, disconnecting lines or opening connections, an aluminised suit should be worn.

Storage: Store in accordance with local/national regulations. Keep away from food, drink and animal feedingstuffs. Keep under dry nitrogen containing less than 10 ppm oxygen. Protect product from moisture and wet air. Keep container tightly closed in a cool, well ventilated place.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing. Keep container tightly sealed. Handle under dry nitrogen. Protect from air. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Use antistatic tools. Segregate from oxidants and peroxides.

Stability and reactivity

The substance is pyrophoric, catches fire spontaneously is exposed to air.

Chemical reaction with water: Decomposes in water.

Disposal considerations

Product residues should be considered special hazardous waste.

Disposal must be performed through an authorized waste management firm, in compliance with national and local regulations.

Contaminated packaging must be recovered or disposed of in compliance with national waste management regulations.
