Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

A C8 member of the butylene oligomers category was shown to be not readily biodegradable in a GLP-compliant guideline study (Harlan 2015) as 3% was degraded after 28 days. A C12 member of this category was shown to be readily biodegradable in a GLP-compliant, guideline study (Evonik Oxeno 2009) as 93.9% was degraded after 28 days. A C16 member of the butylenes isomers category wasshown to be not readily or inherently biodegradable in a GLP-compliant, guideline study (Harlan 2015) as 1% was degraded after 56 days.

Although QSAR estimates indicate that butylene oligomers would not be persistent in the environment, as reliable measured data are available for three representative structures, the experimental data will be used in the risk assessment. Therefore, the C8 and C16 streams are considered to be not readily biodegradable, while the C12 streams are considered to be readily biodegradable.
