- Endpoint:
- relative density
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- 18 Sep - 25 Sep 1995
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- EU Method A.3 (Relative Density)
- Version / remarks:
- 92/69/EEC
- Deviations:
- yes
- Remarks:
- see 'Principles of method if other than guideline'
- Principles of method if other than guideline:
- As a difference from the Testing Guideline A.3, air at 760 Torr was used for calibration (according to the manufacturer, this calibration procedure is sufficient for a precision of the density to 1-10-5^ g/cm^3).
- GLP compliance:
- yes (incl. QA statement)
- Type of method:
- oscillating densitimeter
- Remarks:
- A mechanical oscillator constructed in the form of a U-tube is vibrated at a specific frequency depending on the mass of the oscillator.
- Key result
- Type:
- relative density
- Density:
- 1.109
- Temp.:
- 20 °C
- Conclusions:
- The relative density of the test substance at 20°C is 1.1087.
- Executive summary:
The study was performed to determine the relative density of the test substance by an oscillating densitometer using a mechanical oscillator constructed in the form of a U-tube is vibrated at a specific frequency depending on the mass of the oscillator. The test was performed in accordance with EC Testing Guideline A.3. The density of the test substance was tested in two experiments each with 10 measurements resulting in a relative density of the test substance of 1.1087 at 20°C.

Validity criteria for the measurement of the denisty:
Target condition according to guideline: | Actual condition according to the study: | Validity criteria met: |
The tests have to be run at 20 °C. | The tests were performed at 20 +/- 0.01°C | Yes |
At least two measurements have to be performed. | Two experiments were perfomed each with ten measurements. | Yes |
The relative density, D204, of solids or liquids is the ratio between the mass of a volume of substance to be examined, determined at 20 °C, and the mass of the same volume of water, determined at 4 °C. The relative density, D204, shall be reported as defined, along with the physical state of the measured substance. | The value of the relative density is stated in relation to water at 4°C a the phsyical state of the test substance was stated liquid. | Yes |
