- Endpoint:
- substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
- Endpoint:
- pyrophoric solids
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied

Results
Preliminary Test
The dried solid test item did not ignite at room temperature using a
flame as ignition source being applied for at least 2 minutes.
Main Test
In the preliminary test the dried solid test item could not be ignited
by a flame. Thus, the performance of the main test was not necessary.
Final Results
The dried solid test item ETA Lösung 181 / TRISODIUM EDTA SOLUTION 20% could not be ignited applying a flame as ignition source for at least 2 minutes.
The dried solid test item is classified as follows:
UN Transport Regulation:The dried solid test item does not have to be classifiedas readily combustible solid in class 4.1 according to the UN Transport Regulation.
GHS (CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008: Annex 1: 2.7): The dried solid test item does not have to be classifiedasflammable solid according to GHS / CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1: 2.7.
Results
Self-ignition in the Grewer Oven
In the investigation of self-ignition in the Grewer Oven for the pure test item an endothermic effect could be observed in the temperature range of 80 to 230 °C. An exothermic process was detected starting at 230 °C, which led to a maximum temperature of 445 °C (approx. 160 °C above the corresponding temperature of the reference material). A brown powder remained in the wire basket after the test.

Final Results/Classification
The pure dried solid test item ETA Lösung 181 / TRISODIUM EDTA SOLUTION 20% indicated self-ignition at atmospheric pressure starting at a temperature of 230 °C. Due to the high onset temperature in the Grewer Oven, it can be assumed that the UN Test N.4 using the 25 mm cube sample at 140 °C is negative.
On the basis to the results of the tests on theself-ignition in theGrewer Oventhe test item is classified as follows:
UN Transport Regulation: The dried solid test item does not have to be classified as self-heating substance in class 4, division 4.2 according to the UN Transport Regulation.
GHS/CLP Regulation1272/2008 Annex 1: 2.11: The test item does not have to be classified as self-heating substance according to GHS/CLP RegulationEC 1272/2008 Annex 1: 2.11, respectively.
Description of key information
Non-flammable.
Not self-heating.
No pyrophoricity.
No flammability on contact with water.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- not classified
Additional information
Justification for classification or non-classification
The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:
The dried solid test item ETA Lösung 181 / TRISODIUM EDTA SOLUTION 20% could not be ignited applying a flame as ignition source for at least 2 minutes. The dried solid test item is not flammable on ignition.
The test item is not self-heating.
Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.
